Curator's Notes

Sardines are having a moment and we love the playfulness of these pieces and how they make us smile!

The sardines are hand painted from scratch by Ukrainian artist Oleg Pochula. Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine changed everything for Ukrainians. Since then, the art market has all but dried up in Ukraine, so many including Oleg began exporting their work internationally and rely on customers in Western markets to stay afloat. In the past couple of years, Oleg has become collected globally and his pieces are steadily increasing in popularity.

For each piece sold, you'll not only support a Ukrainian artist but we'll make a contribution to the UN's Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.

Frame

The piece is framed by hand by the artist. This silvery gold frame is our free gift to your for the holidays. These plastic frames are a bit different from typical Wallace frames because they're lighter, but they're very popular in Ukraine and what the artist recommends.

Medium

Oil on an MDF board. (Medium density fiberboard, which is a wood-based material used by artists for painting, sketching, and calligraphy).

Each piece is meticulously hand-painted to order by Oleg. Your piece will look nearly identical to photos, but the individuality of every brushstroke and hue ensures that no two artworks are alike, making each piece distinct.

Each painting is signed and framed by hand by the artist.

Free shipping within the United States. All pieces are painted and framed to order. You'll receive tracking information via email.

There's currently a ~2-3 week lead time before they ship. Shipping typically takes ~2 weeks from Ukraine. If you need your order expedited, please contact questions@wallaceart.co and we'll do our best to accommodate.

About the Artist

Oleg Pochula

Multi hyphenate artist Oleg Pochula, a native Ukranian and trained art teacher, has been a book illustrator, product designer, and decor designer. Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine changed everything for Ukrainians. Many like Oleg were forced from their day jobs. The silver lining for Ukrainian artists like Oleg was an opportunity to pursue their passions professionally. The art market has all but dried up in Ukraine, so many including Oleg began exporting their work internationally. Today Oleg is collected globally.
