Curator's Notes

This piece is part of Tork’s collection “A collection of ordinary days.”

These paintings capture the time when she became a mom—a period of big changes and love. They show everyday moments, like morning walks and evening sunsets. Motherhood helped her see new things about the world and herself.

The series explores a study of color through two methods: using paneling and shapes that appear to float in space.

Each painting freezes a moment in time, as she and her child both grow. “I’m curious what you'll think of them when you're older,” she wonders.

Anna Tork

NYC-based artist Anna Tork lives on the Upper West Side, a neighborhood known for its abundance of parks, skyline and the Hudson River. Her walks along the water draw a beautiful contrast between the permanent sculpture of building lines and the whimsical curvature of soft water. Key to the artist’s practice is taking a few months in between series to explore new techniques and concepts — a time for the messy and imperfect. Tork’s abstract art features a blend of acrylic, pastels and spray paint on cotton canvas. Charcoal, graphite, and colored pencils are also featured from time to time.
